The short version

OYSTR is a small, independent app run by Samuel Chen. We collect the minimum data we need to make the app work and to run the business. We do not sell your data. We do not run ads. We do not share your information with any third party except the ones we need to (payment processor, email service, courier).

What we collect on the OYSTR iOS app

Location — only while you use the app, only to show you the closest oyster rooms. We do not store or transmit your location to any server. It stays on your device.
Your saved venues, filter preferences, and Log Book entries — stored locally on your device by default. If you sign in (Y2 feature), synced to our servers so you can restore them on a new phone.
App usage analytics — via PostHog (self-hosted, EU region). We track anonymous events (app opened, venue viewed, filter used) to understand how the app is used. No personal identifiers.
Crash reports — via Sentry. Includes device model, OS version, and stack trace. No personal identifiers.

What we collect on oystr.farm and shop.oystr.farm

Email address — if you join the waitlist, subscribe to The Bed, or buy from the shop.
Payment information — processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe holds a token.
Shipping address — for fresh oyster orders and merch, passed to Wright Brothers or the merch fulfilment partner. Not retained beyond the order.
Site analytics — anonymous, via Cloudflare Web Analytics. No cookies, no personal identifiers.

Who we share data with

Stripe — payment processing.
Buttondown or Substack — newsletter sending. Your email is stored there while you are subscribed. Unsubscribe removes it.
Wright Brothers Home — for fresh oyster orders and The Bed subscription, we pass your shipping address and order details. Wright Brothers stores this only as long as needed to fulfil the order.
Printful, Everpress, and small UK makers — for merch orders. Your shipping address and order details are passed to fulfil, then not retained.
Cloudflare — hosts the site and handles email routing.
PostHog and Sentry — anonymous product analytics and crash reporting.

We do not share data with any advertiser, data broker, or third party not listed above.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to know what data we hold about you, correct anything wrong, and ask us to delete it. Email privacy@oystr.farm and we will respond within thirty days. In practice, usually the same day.

Cookies

The oystr.farm site does not set cookies for tracking. Cloudflare uses functional cookies for security and load balancing. The shop (Shopify or similar) may set functional cookies for cart persistence and payment. No advertising cookies. No third-party trackers.

Children

OYSTR is not intended for anyone under sixteen. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has provided information, please email and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be announced by email to newsletter and subscription customers, and updated here with a new "last updated" date.
